If you have recently started up your own business, or you have been trading for a while and are coming up with new business progression ideas, then why not take your store to Shopify?
Shopify is a platform where you will be able to create your own online shop that will be able to showcase all of your products to potential customers. You can customize your store to meet your needs and set it up to look and function how you want it to.
However, just like with any other buying and selling platform, Shopify does not come for free. You will need to consider their subscription fees and transaction fees, depending on the plan that you use. In this article, we are going to make you aware of any and all Shopify costs, so you can work out if this is the right platform for you.
Types of Shopify Plans
There are a few different plans for you to choose from on the Shopify website, and the one that you will choose will depend on your needs. We are going to explain these plans below to give you a better idea of what you can expect from each one.
Basic Shopify Plan
This plan costs a total of $29 a month. The basic Shopify plan allows you to sell an unlimited number of products, and this is the cheapest plan that is available. It does not limit the amount of products or file storage, and it also comes with abandoned cart recovery. However, you will not be able to include features such as gift cards, and you will not receive professional reports.
The Shopify plan costs a total of $79, and even though this is $50 more expensive than the previous plan, it does have a lower transaction rate when a credit card is used. It also provides you with more additional features.
The credit card payment rate is 0.3% lower than the previous plan, and you will receive professional reports that give you a much better insight into your online store. You can also make use of the gift card feature with this plan.
Advanced Shopify Plan
The advanced Shopify plan is the most expensive plan that you can get, but this also means that the credit card payment rate is the lowest. It also provides the best shipping conditions for the US, and this plan will provide you with access to real-time carrier shipping.
This means that the shipping cost will be automatically calculated by a third party, and you will also receive access to the advanced report builder, which allows you to customize your own professional reports.
Does Shopify Take a Percentage of Sales?
Unlike many other platforms, Shopify does not actually take a percentage of your sales. You will only need to pay for your plan, which we have explained above, and then the transaction fees when you make a sale.
Does Shopify Charge a Transaction Fee?
Yes, you should be aware that Shopify does charge a transaction fee, but the different plans charge a different fee. You can get around Shopify transaction fees by only using the Shopify payments feature, but this service is not available in all countries.
The countries where this service is currently available include Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Hong Kong SAR, Ireland, Italy, Japan, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, and the United States of America.
If you do not live in any of the above countries, or you choose to use an external payment gateways, then there will be additional fees of 2%, 1% or 0.5% for our Basic Shopify, Shopify, and Advanced Shopify plans, respectively.
Transaction fees will be charged by the company that is providing you with your online store, and credit card fees will be charged by your payment gateway provider, which is the software that processes the payments.
So, if you are using only Shopify payments, then you will not have to deal with any transaction fees, but if you are not, then there is a certain percentage that you will have to pay, depending on your plan. The more expensive the plan is, the lower the transaction fee will be.
Although, considering that they do not charge any additional fees when it comes to the sales that you make, this isn’t too bad of a price to pay. With this service, there are no hidden costs, and what you see is what you get.
You should also be aware of the fact that Shopify’s transaction fees can vary by county, and we have listed the US transaction fees. If you do not live in the US, you can expect to pay a differing rate, depending on where you live. In the UK, these rates are actually slightly less costly, which is a great benefit.
Does Shopify Have a Free Trial?
Yes, one of the great features that Shopify has to offer is a 14-day free trial. You can cancel this trial at any point before the trial ends. You can simply sign up for Shopify and use the service for 14 days to find out if it works well for you.
You will not have to enter your payment details at any point throughout this trial. At the end of the trial, or when you are ready to launch your store, you will then need to choose a plan and enter your payment information.
How Much Does It Cost To Set up Shopify?
When it comes to setting up your Shopify and starting up, there are no additional costs. All you need to do is create an account, connect your own domain, install a theme, upload your products, and you are good to go. All you have to pay is your plan subscription fee.
