The best customer service is if the customer doesn’t need to call you and doesn’t need to talk to you. It just works - Jeff Bezos
Sometimes it’s easy to forget and even harder to imagine that that world’s third-largest company started life as a used and new online bookstore that was based in a garage in Washington.
The idea that you can create a multi-national, global empire and change the lives of millions of people with the right idea is the personification of the American dream and an ideal that we all aspire to.
That company, Amazon, has now made it possible for anyone to follow in their founder Jeff Bezos footsteps and create their own international business using Amazon as a start-up and fulfillment platform to launch and maintain their company.
Amazon’s CEO hasn’t forgotten his roots and is capitalizing on his fortune and acumen to enable anyone with the desire to be their own boss and a vision of how to get there to reach for and make their dream come true, with the help of Amazon and their Private Labelling.
Or as it’s more commonly known, and most of the businesses who have successfully taken advantage of launched themselves call it, Private Label Amazon
What Is Private Labelling?
It’s a simple and revolutionary idea. You set up your own business, create your own branding, and then use an outside company to make your products for you, at cost. Those products are then sold, through your company, using your own branding.
It essentially allows you to use an existing business infrastructure to create your company using products that you already know are in demand and have an established target market and audience.
So What Is Private Label Amazon?
Private labeling on Amazon works the same way as it does everywhere else, only you sell your products directly through Amazon.
After establishing your business and branding name, finding your business idea, and setting up an account with Amazon, you can then reach out to a manufacturing company that will produce the goods for you, use your packaging and branding and ship said goods, and whatever you want to build your brand around, directly to Amazon who will then sells them under your company name.
It’s an idea that can literally transform your fortunes overnight and can successfully be run from the comfort of your own home. You won’t even need to commute to or own an office. All you need to run a successful private label business is a laptop.
And, as Amazon runs its own incredibly profitable private label business, the Amazon Basics range, it’s proved that it's the right platform to launch, and maintain, a private label with.
What Do I Need To Know? Where Do I Start?
Just like every other business, a successful private label begins with a good idea. Or, more accurately, a few good ideas. The first thing you’ll need to do is decide what it is you want to sell through your private label, and what kind of business you want it to be.
That’s why we said that it was better to come up with a few ideas rather than just focusing on one because you’ll need to find out which, if any, of your product ideas is going to work and will sell better than the others on Amazon.
How Will I Know Which Idea Will Work?
That’s simple, all you need is a Chrome Extension called Jungle Scout and an Amazon account.
Simply search for all the products that you’re thinking of selling through your company on Amazon, and when the highest ranked item appears, click on the Scout extension in your browser and it will tell you what the monthly sales figures for it are, and how rapidly the item in question sells.
Once you’ve decided which item you want to build your private label around, it’s time to find the manufacturer.
How Do I Find A Manufacturer? What About Branding?
This is where you’ll have to invest your time and energy.
Use the internet to search for manufacturers and companies (a quick and efficient way to do it is with a buyers account on Alibaba which lets you contact Chinese manufacturers and order in bulk from them), and reach out to them in order to find out which of them will be able to fulfill your orders and help you to move forward with your business
It’s also important to order samples from all of them, as you’ll need to know what your products look like. Once you’ve decided which company you want to work with, set up an account with them and work with them to design and create your own branding and packaging.
You’ll be surprised how easy and helpful most manufacturers are to work with, and it should be a relatively pain-free and easy process.
Getting The Goods To Your Customers
If you’re going to run a Private Label on Amazon, the easiest and best way to get your goods to your customers with an Amazon Seller Account (anyone can set one up) that uses FBA (Fulfilment By Amazon) as your chosen sales method.
That way, all you need to do is have your manufacturer ship your product straight to an Amazon fulfillment center, and create the listings for your goods on Amazon.
It’s also worth making a note of your competitors on Amazon, and if you can, price your product slightly lower than they’re selling theirs for. Customers love a bargain, and nothing screams bargain as clearly as an affordable price point does.
Then sit back, and control your stock, orders, and business from the comfort of your favorite chair, and let Amazon and your chosen manufacturer do all the hard work for you.
It Can’t Be That Easy, Can It?
Providing you have the start-up capital to place and pay for the initial orders of your stock with your chosen manufacturer, it absolutely is that easy.
Private Label businesses, especially those run through Amazon are designed to be straightforward and simple to run. All you need to do is make sure that you choose the right product.
